How to make the Prop
To create my prop, I drew some ideas of a “Cutlass”
First find a picture of a cutlass and save it as a file. Create a plane and go onto materiel editor. Place on a checker board and then place on the image by opening diffuse and select bitmap, and then open the image file. You must place on a checker board because it won’t show up unless it’s rendered.
Now using the box tool make a rectangle, make it transparent and include lots of segments. The segments will make it so you can shape it into the sword.
Start to shape it into the cutlass, by using the outline.
This is when I started using an image from the internet because I wanted it to look more accurate.
Now using the create tool make a cone. Attach it to the beginning of the blade, as shown below.
Edit the poly so it looks like the image shown below.
Texture it with a red metal texture. To do this go onto “Google Images” and search for red metal texture then apply it onto the model.
Now to make the blade glow, my idea for the glow came from welders making metals so hot they glow orange. To make the material for the glow, click on the blade. Now open material editor and set the ambient and the diffuse to red. Set the Self-Illumination to 100. Press 8 to open environment and effects, click on the effects tab and add lens effects; now add glow on the lens effect parameter. Go to glow element and set the size to 0.1 and the intensity to 161. Set both of the radial colours to red. Now click on to options and select object ID (note object ID must be 1). Now right click on the object, and then open up object properties. On object properties set the G buffer to 1. When you render it, it should look like the image below.
Create a box and edit the poly so it looks like a plug pin. Clone the new box and place them on the bottom of the tool as shown below. Now go onto “Google Images” and search gold texture and save it in your texture files. Repeat what you have done with the red metal texture and apply the gold texture on the pins. This should result in completion.
